This course will give students confidence in writing for particular purposes and audiences. Students should have a baseline understanding of written English, but the complexity of the texts reviewed during the course can be adapted to the ability and learning needs of students. The course will involve in-depth teaching on form, structure, vocabulary and tone, as well as grammar, punctuation and spelling. Teaching will occur through a range of modes of instruction including explanation, modelling and collective analysis. Students will be expected to spend at least one hour after each session on their independent writing task and will receive detailed feedback from the teacher. It is with this additional work outside of class that students will receive the maximum benefit of the course.
