Yogic breathwork and exercises have been shown to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system. This calms the stress response, lowers cortisol levels, and so lessens anxiety and panic attacks.
Anxiety is an umbrella term defining many responses to perceived stress. Many research papers have concluded that mental and physical health are not just allied but essentially equivalent. Symptoms may include nervousness, restlessness, feelings of panic, hyperventilation, increased or heavy sweating, trembling or muscle twitching, weakness and lethargy, difficulty focusing, obsessions about certain ideas. Yogic breathwork and exercises have been shown to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system. This calms the stress response, lowers cortisol levels, and so lessens anxiety and panic attacks. Yoga therapy can help reduce the symptoms associated with anxiety by showing you the tools to help recognise intrusive thoughts, feelings and actions that lead to cyclical heightened anxiety. Self-soothing methods regulate the nervous system and build resilience to stress on and off the mat. This is an entirely practical course designed for all levels of ability. All that is required is access to a quiet room, a yoga mat, a blanket and cushions.
