This course teaches the foundations needed to study calculus and would therefore be appropriate to students who are about to start their A-Levels or IB diploma, or are in the first year of these programs. The study of functions is one of the most fundamental area of mathematics, as they are at the heart of every topic in advanced mathematics and this course would be most suitable for students seeking a technology-related degree. At the beginning, the general properties of functions will be discussed and with each lesson a new type of function gets introduced. Students will see that although functions can greatly differ amongst each other, they all possess the same properties and can be generally treated the same. One of the most important skills students would gain from this course is a visual understanding of mathematical expressions and sketching functions without any technology.
