Explore the impact of the Roman Empire, how quickly it spread, the lasting legacy of Roman roads and bathhouses and understand how rebellions formed and the original culture of the Roman Empire developed.
This course is aimed at Key Stage 2 students (7 – 11). The aim is to provide a deeper understanding of the impact of the Roman Empire and how influential it became. Students will utilise a number of inter-curriculum skills to reinforce their learning, such as art, debate and drama. They will also gain and deploy a historically-grounded understanding of abstract terms such as 'empire', 'civilisation', 'parliament' and 'peasantry'. Furthermore, students will grow to understand historical concepts such as continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance, and use them to make connections, draw contrasts, analyse trends, frame historically valid questions and create their own structured accounts, including written narratives and analyses. Students will also understand the methods of historical enquiry, including how evidence is used rigorously to make historical claims, and discern how and why contrasting arguments and interpretations of the past have been constructed.
